Living Your Dream
I was speaking to a friend of mine this morning – as we got to discussing how many people actually had the opportunity to make a career doing what they love. It occurred to me as we chatted, that for the first time in my life I was now in a position to do exactly that. Since I’ve dreamed of being a published author from the age of seven (when I wrote my first book – a love story about a girl and her horse) and to when I first submitted to a publishing house at age twenty, I have had several careers – most of them enjoyable and rewarding. But I haven’t, until now, been able to really live my dream. It took a sea change and a wonderfully supportive husband who understood how much I wanted to be a published author, for me to achieve my goal. In saying that, I have complete admiration for those authors who hold day jobs and have successful writing careers (in particular those who have children as well). The mental discipline is astonishing.
So with my revisions done, my first ever contract signed and sent and my mind now steadfast in the early chapters of my new book, I can categorically say I am finally doing what I love – writing.
And it feels great.
It's so great to hear that reaching the first stage of your dream (cos I'm sure there are even bigger things ahead) is all you hoped. Happiness is to be treasured.
Yay you!!
=)
Good on you Helen, what a fabulous dream. Having spent the last month or so in deep edits, and the last 12 of those days working 15 hour days to get it back to the editor, i'm now dreaming of sleeping LOL
Jane
Yay Beck – dream big I say.
And Jane – enjoy that sleep – you've earned it.
so true, Helen! And I have to say congrats again on becoming a Harlequin author. Will be great to see you in August at our dinner 😀
Thanks Paula. I’m looking forward to August too!
