Titles
I was thinking about titles recently. Well, in fact I had to come up with some alternate title ideas for my book which is scheduled for release in December 2012. I’ve sent the ideas to my editor and will wait to see if any are suitable. But it got me thinking about how attached, or unattached, some writers become to their titles. I’ve known writers to angst for days, even weeks, over a title. I admit I always come up with a title at around the same time I’m starting to conjure names for my hero and heroine. Obviously I like to link it back to the story. When I wrote Made For Marriage I had the title picked before I’d written any words. I do wonder though, if I’m lucky enough to one day count the number of books I’ve had published in double digits, will I still be able to come up with catchy titles. Actually, I can confess that many years ago I wrote a list of titles, probably well over a hundred, and vowed to write each and every one of those stories. Well, two down . . . countless others to go. Looking forward to it though.
Hi Helen, I start out with a working title and it can change up to ten times throughout the writing of the book. A list of a hundred titles is very impressive. You’re going to be a busy lady writing all those books. What fun!
I think I’ve seen that list………Love your website

Nani, I’m pretty sure you have!
Helen I read a fabulous blog about titles recently and how to go about creating that perfect title….now I have find it again and jot out the main ideas so I can put them into practice. Blogs can be so useful and so very helpful to other writers. In my years within this interest….more than I care to reveal…. can honestly say writers are some of the most caring and sharing people I’ve ever met.
Hi, Helen,
LoL on the titles list–I have one too! My story ideas usually start with a title and the story falls into place after that.
It’s a shame Shirley didn’t put up the link for that blog about titles. It would have been interesting to see the blogger’s take on creating the perfect title. 🙂
